JHS TSA Guide for Events
This guide covers the Washington TSA high-school competitive events for the 2026–2027 school year. The current event list is maintained by Washington TSA; each event page links to its official WTSA information and current rules.
The JHS TSA board has rated, with the input of experienced members, all the events in the event based on the average time commitement it needs for a member in that event. There is a points minimum of 10 a member must meet in order to qualify to go to state. These points are not indcative an event's competitiveness: you are not going to win easily in lower rated events. In fact, if you aim to make it to the national level, you will need to put significant effort even if it is an lower ranked event.
In order to view national event guides, make sure you are logged into your LWSD account when prompted.
Statement on AI Use
AI is NO LONGER completely banned in all TSA submissions.
TSA permits the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) software AI with clear attribution and ethical guidelines for specific events. For these events, students must submit the Resources and AI Reflection Form
Generative AI tools should be used thoughtfully, ethically, and with clear purpose to enhance student learning rather than replace it. Students may use these tools as optional supports. For example, to explore possible topics, begin searching for sources, clarify their understanding of complex texts, or review their writing for grammar and tone. However, students must read primary and secondary sources, perform their own analysis and synthesis of evidence, and make independent decisions about how to communicate their ideas in their writing and presentations. It is the student’s responsibility to engage deeply with credible, valid sources and integrate diverse perspectives when working on solutions.
